Tokyo: Salsa
Translated from the French original — read it here.
I smile just thinking back to my salsa nights in Tokyo :-) — that's the magic of salsa and its community. I really did run into some very kind people in that city.
On the dancing itself, there are nights on more or less every evening of the week, and as in Korea there are venues in this city given over entirely to my passion — though the scale isn't quite Seoul's; halve the space and the numbers for Japan by comparison. But it's still very good, and I had some really great nights :-). Most of the salsa clubs are in the Roppongi district. During the week I'd go to Club Caribe or El Cafe Latino; at weekends the meeting point was usually Pepe2.
As in Korea, I was struck by the level of the dancers. There's nothing to say — even the beginners have a very good connection, and it was a pleasure.... I danced almost non-stop and had a wonderful time. The community's welcome in this country was enormous; I was given all sorts of advice and kindness, and when it came time to leave, once again, my heart was heavy.
