Afro-Cuban classes: Lesvia & Chichi
Translated from the French original — read it here.
Classes taken in Santiago de Cuba, February 2015
Before I left, several friends had warned me to be careful about signing up for classes in Cuba — there were plenty of good teachers, they said, but a fair number of charlatans too. So once I got to Santiago de Cuba I decided to go by word of mouth instead, and the people there recommended Lesvia & Chichi :-).
I was very lucky to have found them :-) . I took most of my classes with Lesvia and they were genuinely good. She was very (very very very :-D ) hard on me, so that I'd do things more or less properly, and she was just as generous in sharing her culture. She never watched the clock.. I can honestly say I got my money's worth every single time. I took private classes with them for about ten days.
The interview I recorded with my teachers is up on YouTube:
